Just when Apple had taken defiant stand against security experts’ warnings that all browsers are vulnerable to attacks, the technology vendor is alerting Video iPod owners to the possibility of infection from a Windows virus. Apple recently claimed that its Safari, its web browser, had not been the target of virulent attacks from the Internet.
Earlier this week though, the company said that a few of its Video iPods that were shipped after September 12 this year were infected with the RavMonE virus. The virus affects only Windows' users.
Damage control measures are being taken through an apology tendered on Apple’s website, which is also providing instructions on how to delete the virus. A statement on the site takes a potshot at Microsoft:
As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses, and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it.
There’s good news for those of you who’ve armored your systems with the latest anti-virus software; you’re unlikely to be affected. For the rest, Apple is offering links to antivirus vendors who are offering a free 30-day trial of their products.
